Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co* (Ltd.) report as follows: —

We held our usual fortnightly sale in our . Maclaggan street stores on Thursday, llthv November, when we offered a catalogue - of 530 bides to a large -and representative gathering o* buyers. There was very animated bidding at our sale, and every lot was cold under the hammer at what must be considered highly satisfactory prices by all vendors who were enough to- . have- -consignments" .forward. All classes o£ hides realised figures considerably in ad~ » vance- of late ruling values. Some ideaA.; may be formed of the prices ~paid when we ■ can report that every lot of ox.hid^s-in our catalogue realised from 6d to Bsd per * lb, and- of" these only seven „j*ere sold at under 6£d per lb. Our ihighest average 1 , price for ox hides was £2 13s 4d per hide, while another lot averaged £2 13s 3d each. .Despite these handsome prices, we had no really prime ox hides forward for this week's sale. In cow hides we show almost as good a record, only nine lots being- sold) at under 6d per lb. Our top price for cow hides was £2 8s 9d, wthich constitutes a record for the Dominion in cow bides, both for price per lb and price per hide* Calfskins were also in good demand, a very large number of lots fetching 9d to 9£rf per ib. The actual sales quoted hereunder will give a. good idea of what hides are worth in our market at the present time.
