QUARRY ACCIDENT.

PREMATURE EXPLOSION.

THREE MEN INJURED.

A premature explosion occurred at Mr G. Calder's quarry at North-East Valley at 9 o'clock on Saturday morning during rook-blast'ns? operations, whereby three employees were injured. Their names aTe William Boyer, Richard Milford, and Jas. Medlin, all of whom N are married and residing at the north end of the city. When- this accident occurred, Milford and Medlin were charging a hole in the rock face about 15ft from the ground, and Boyer was working alongside with a dray. The men were in the act of charging the hole when tbe gelignite exploded, and about 50 tons of rock And loose material came away from the face. The three men staggered back from the force of the explosion, and Boyer was seen to be- half buried with fallen debris. He was quickly extricated, nud it was found that his right leg was broken. Milford and Medlin were fortunate in escaping as they did. Both were badly cut about the head and face, but Milford fared worse in haying 1 his eyas severely injured, though it is difficult yet to fcay to what extent, if any, his sight will be impaired. * The three inj'ired n»n -were immediately remove J to the Hospital, and there attended to.
