MARATHON RACE RECORD
WELLINGTON, November 9.
Despite an exosdingly disagreeabie gale there was a big attendance at the WelKngton Amateur Athletic Club's sports on the Basin Reserve this afternoon. Amongst those present were his Excellency the- Governor (Lord Plunke*) whe> was accompanied by Captain Shannon, A.D.C, Archbishop Redwood, the Hon. A R. Guinness, the Mayor, of Wellington (Dr A. K. Newman), and several members of Parliament.
The 100 Yards Handicap was won by H. H.» Dawson (syds start), the Half-mile by J. P. Wilson fecratoh), *he 120 Yards Hurdles by A. Evenson (owe 10yds). the Mile run by P. B. Heffer (35yds), the 339 Yards race by A. C. Hubbard (12yds), and the Pole Vault by A. Evenson. In this event L. M'Kay jumped only 9ft 9in compared with die lift lin at Hobart last year. Great interest was taken in tbe Marathon Race, from Wellington to Taiba and back, a distance- of 26- miks 385 yards. There were 10 starters— namely, W. Bennett (WelKngtohK, F. Deianey (Wellington), P. J. Fitzgerald (Wellington), C. B. Lamberg '(Wellington), M. MnJeahy (Palmeraton N.), G. Jteiff (Auckland), H. Thompson (Wellington), W. F. Simpson (Canterbury), W. H. - Press (WeHingtoto), G. J. WiHrins (Christchttroh). At Ngafoauraoga* Reid (Auckland) was leading, with Mufcahy next, Fitzgerald in tlhird place, and Press running fourth. At Petone Reid was leading, with Mulcafoy second, Fitzgerald third, aaad the rest bunched together. Redd still led at Lower Hutt, wjth Mulcahy in second place, but Bennett nad superseded Fitzgerald. At Taita Reid we* stifl leading. At Lower Hutt on, the return journey Thompson had assumed the lead, with Fitzgerald second and Simpson third, and at Petone the position was^ — Thompson <L, Fitzgerald 2, Bennett 3, Simpson 4. From this out Thompson had the race in hand. Tbe result and time 3 are as follow: —

Thompson's" time eeh'-pses the Australasian- record by 52 2-ssee.
