TAIERI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY
THE ANNUAL SHOW. The Taieri Agricultural Society, which is one of the oldest established ir Otago, held its forty-eighth annual show a* Allanton yesterday in "glorious weather. The attendance was large, the entries exceeded those of last year by 130, and tne popular decision was fhat this was the most successful show the society had evter held. As usual, the salient features were j the draught horses and) parades. Draught classes were particularly strong. Thechampionship was taken by James w. Blair's Newton Chief. Entries were satisfactory in entire colts, and some very promising horseflesh was on show. lne brood ma-res in foal or with foal at foot also made an interesting class. The fillies were the most numerous, and there were j no weeds amonf them. The judges, though they worked* very hard, were unable to complete their lists till a comparatively late hour, whten many of the visitors had left the show grounds. , The 6'bow was attended by a number of wtell-known gentlemen from Duaiedin. The Hon. Thomas Mackenzie sent a tele- i gram regretting Tiia inability to be present and wishing the event erery success. ! - The cheep, taken, as a whole, formed j win interesting exhibit, were in me j hands of capable judges. Mr . John Milter was well to the 'fore in Komney liatsh, and ' carried . off the cToampion prizes. The aged ewes were the weakest class. The others were nearly all good cheep, well woolled and evenly clad. There were some specially fine hoggets. The Leicesters made a good *ow, though several were rather out pi condition. JNo entries ' were forward " for Shropshires. The dogs shown were all 'ikely animals, -but iShe classes were a little mixed. The dairy produce display was vwity strong, both in entries and excellence. Among the cattle were «ei*>fral good boasts. The tendency would ©e«m to be towards c useful, rathei than a showy, class. , , Following is the prize list:— HOBSBS. ihUtfGHTS. Judges: Messrs H* Saunder. and J. R. Mackenzie.
