Procuring sixpence worth of strychnine, he dissolved it in two cupfuls of water, and in this he soaked a couple of pieces of bread, which fie afterwards distributed about his garden, ffhe bird 3 took the bait freely, and within » very- short time there were innumerable vlead 'birds to be found about his own and * '.neighbours' gardens, and he says there are uot now a tenth of the birds frequenting his place. This is, he says, a good, time to poison, as the birds, having their young to feed, eat voraciously of any soft food that comes in their way.
