CONCEE RT AT MAORI KAIK.
On Friday. 15th iiist., a most successful concert was held in the Kaik Hall, the object being to rau-e funds to carry out Mw-iou- needed inipro\e;nents in the hall, and as a result of the evening's entertainment a large .sum ,-hould be available for thi« laudable object. The complete programme wa 6 - supplied and carried through by Me^-rs (."ha lies Bcgg- and Co. (Ltd.). The programme opened with a selec-tion by Berg's Orchestra, which, under the leadership of Mr J. Flint, tendered its various items in faultless *tylo. Plantation songs SUlisr b\ Begg s Male Voice Choir, with nrchestial accompaniment, fairly brought down i lie house, and a repetition was demanded. Acceptable neiiis were: Clarinet duet b> Messrs Bri<r»r.« and Brundell, cornet solo by Mr J. Bailoy, '" Out on the d»ep " by Mr George Scott. '" Over the ocean " by Mr Hay. whilst Mr M'Connell's comic efforts were heartily applauded. Mr D Bo'l delighted hi* Maori friends with a clever impersonation of '' Gilt-<=-dged with fwliriff. A tieat was now in slur? for the conceit party. The Maoii maidens had very thoughtfully arranged a d.-nee- to be held at tho 'conclusion/ of the concert, and the pake-has enjoyed themselves very much.
Wellington rifle ealooos are in future to be classed for licensing purfpoees with public halls, the City Council having reduced the license fee of rifle saloons from £10 to £5 3s per annum.
