WELLINGTON WING WHISPER
By Peter Pah.
October 22. l>?ar Pasquin, — Rickards's Vaudeville Company is here. They opened to a packed house, and the wonderful little dogs of Ktuina Ca&selli quite captured the audience with their marvellous performance. Graham and Dent are with the show, and have a fine sketch in. ''100 to 1." It is a great luuirhtpr-mak«i\ and *he genia_l Fred has not lost any of his dash. The show all lound is a good one, and compares favourably with any of Mr Rickards's former companies. Mr Bavnev Levy, avant courier of Wm. Anderson's Dramatic Company, is busy preparing for the sompany's opening on September 3. Mr R. B. Young was in town the other day. He is hpiv- in tho intcrosts of "The WfMilot Troubadours," who intend pay)v<<x a return visit to New Zealand. The \V' Hinoftori season commences on Deoem-b-v 10. Whilst in England and America recently Mr Vrcd Graham managed \o secure the nsr'iN of some clever musical comedies and -^kctcnes, which he intends to produce in Now Zealand next year, under his own jn'j nutriment. Th-f Wc-t anH Royal Pictures Syndicates ha\r> accepted the tender of Sanders Bros., of thi^ city, for the supply of the seats for th-s King's Theatre, now in course of erection. The scats will be of wood and iron and on the tip-up principle. There wore several tenders from S>dney firms. Mr Gil Hcskins came from Wanganui. representing the West Syndicate, in connection with the acceptance of the tender. Mr John Fuller, jun., left on Thursday by the Waikare for Auckland, en route to Sydney Mr Fuller goes to engage artists
for a vaudevile tour, but this branch «F ' the business will be kept entirely 1 separate from tho picture* shows run by the firm. Mr -John will meet Ben in Sydney, and there confer as to the selection of artists. The Gfeach • "Egiishman's Home" (Dramatic Company was in. town to-day, and left this evening for Timaru. "The Fatal Wedding" has~ been added to the company's repertoire, and a number of youngchildren arrived fuom Sydney on Wednesday to join the ctmpany for this produe- - tion. Mr Braradon-Cremer (be careful, of that hypen, he is proud of it), who is now a member of the Geach Dramatic Company, leaves that combination, at Oamaru and returns to Sydney. He intends going on tour with "Little Lord Fauntleroy" under his own management, the "atar" part being played by his clever child, "Baby" Cremer. "Baby" Cremer made a big hit as Simple Simon in the Melbourne production of the pantomime "Jack and Jill." . Miss Nancy Perry, a well-known Welling", ton amateur theatrical, has', through the instrumentality of Mr Leo de Chateau's School of Acting, obtained an engagement as leading character actress with Edwin Geach's "Englishman's Home-" Company:' Miss Perry has proved^ herself one of our best amateur artists, and it was Mi* de Chateau who recognised- in her an actress of- professional ability and obtained- for ker hesp first- professional engagement. Misa Perry has played Mrs -Firman m "Dr Bill," Mrs Macclesfield' in ' "The^uy nor," Mrs" Larry in "The Land -of th« Living." The Wellington Amateur- Dramatio Club last night presented her with a silver-mounted purse. Miss "Pierry Joined the company today. I Mr Stanley Cherry, who is managing' Edwin Geaoh's Company, was in town today renewing his acquaintance with Wellington friends. Mr Allan Hamilton is aa enthusiastic as ever about New Zealand as a show country. The rents of theatres, however;' are increasing,, he says, for where £60 waaf once asked £100 is tho figu.ro now. Mr . Hamilton has many attractions in foa&ixf, for besides being interested! in the tour of Rickands'e Vaudeville Company, he has a dramatio company touring Australia, headed by George Cross and Ada Guildford, which wiU be reorganised for a Christmas season at Melbourne, when "Th«. Lights of London" will b& produced, supplementedi by the drama, " Revenge," both of which have been acquired from Bland Holt. " Beauty and the Barge " will also be played by this company.' A company to tour the "smalls" of -New Zealand with " A Message from Mare " is also being formed^. Mr Herbert Bentley will probably be the, le&d of this company. A second compan^ to play "Revenge, 1 * " The King of Crime," and " A Meesag* from Mars '< will open in Bendigo on Boxing Night. It is also probable #hat Waiter Bentley will tour this Dominion under. Mr Hamilton's banner. The repertoire of Anderson's Dramatic Company, which opens here on the 3rd: November, will include " The Great World of London,," " The Female Swindler," " Man to Man," and " A Life's Revenge." Miss Kate Gair, who is a Wellington I young lady, will play the leading parts.
