At the Wellington Chess Club Mr W. B. Mason has be.iten Mr P. Still, and Mt E. Hicks hae defeated Mr H. Tonks in the Petherick Shield handicap tournament. The first-class tournament a<t the Auckland Chess Club has concluded. Mr E. J. Miles was top scorer with 11 wins, 1 draw", 2 losses. Mr J. C GTier&on, runner-up, -achieved 10 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses, and the other competitors scored as follow: — Rev. A. Miller, 9 ! win-s, 1 draw, 4 losses; A. H. O'Loughlan, ,' B—o—6; F. C. Ewn, s—l—B; E. Priestl«y, j s—o—9 ; and H. B. Wingfield, -2—l—ll.
