TAILORESSES' UNIOX Tbo following is the substance of the iward of tha Arbitration Court in the ndustrial dispute between the Dunfidin Tailorcsses' Industrial Union of Workers 3f the Dunedin, Oamaru, and Southland Master Tailors' Industrial Unions of Employers : — ; All bespoke work ehall be done in the shop of the employer for whom the same >s performed, and ehaJl be paid for according to the eaid time statemenit. The expression " bespoke work " in this award shall include all goods made and sold as ailor-made, also any order in which there is a ga.rme.nt fitted on, whether euoh 3rder is by chart measure or not. Bespoke work to mean all goods made LTid sold under th© heading of "tailoring" n- "tailor- made,"' and must be made on the premises and paid for at the tallorssaes' shop log. (This clause does not in my way interfere wish the factory chart measures, if 6okl as such.) Subject to tfoa- provisions of this award), my employer may employ workers at weekly wages, who may do and perform ?J1 or any of the work required to be pc formed by suoh employer. The lowest rate of wagies paid to workers, including 1 machinists and tailorssses on ladies' work, employed at weekly n-a?ej, shall be- the sum of" £1 7s 6d for each and every week. Theite shall bo a faix distribution of work among- all operatives in eadh workshop by the employers. Where there are wv&ral workrooms used by an employer Hie same shall be considered and included as one workshop for the purposes of this r-lause. The number of apprentices shall be limited to one to every three ops ra rives or fraction of the first three operatives. The proportion of apprentices 6hall be gauged by full employment of operatives for t'wobhirds of the full time for the preceding six calendar months. Provicbd that in the case of any employer whoso place of business is outside a radius oi eight mil~s from the Chief Post Office, Dunedin, the proportion of apprentices shall b> one apprentice for every two opea-athes <«r fraction of the first two operatives fully employed. Every apprentice shall serve for Hie full period of four years, but indenture shall not be required. Apprentices must be thoroughly taught their trade. The rates of payment to apprentices shall ba as fellows— viz. : For the first six calendar months of the apprenticeship mci sum of 5s for each and every week, to ba increase J by the sum of 2o 6d per waek every six months until the term of apprenticeship expires.
