The fact that Master Soult has been paid up for the New Zealand Cup go^s to show that the Auckland horse is making a satisfactory recovery from, the mishap that recently befel him. The Cyrenian gelding, Cymri. who showed up promisingly as a hurdle-racer last, winter but had to be given a epell owing to his going amiss just before the winter hurdles came on for decision, is again among- the horsee in active training. The Castor — Sapphira mare, Castorlin-e. owned by Mr J- Twohill, has produced a colt to Soult. The youngster is a full brother to the briljiant Soultline, who carried the young Auckland sportsman's colours with such conspicuous 6uccess in Australia before being sold or the other side at a good round figure. Jarvise George arrived here from New Plymouth on Friday last in charge of Maika, who is engaged at the A.R.C. spiing meeting next month. With eighteen two-year-olds nominated for the A.R.C. Welcome Stakes, there is ample material for an interesting race in ihe first juvenile event of tho eeason to be run at the metropolitan club's course at E'lerelie. 'Five youngsters entered include King Soult and Athby, who earned winning distinction at A\ondale last month, and a recent Hawke'e Bay winner in Winning Post. The Soaton Delaval gelding, Akarana, who was not seen, under silk for the whole of last season, is being pro-pared for hi^ engagement in tho City Handicap to be run at Ellerelie on No\ ember 6, bj J. B. Williamson. It would appear as though tho world's ex-champion pugilist, Tommy Burns, intends hoisting his colours on Australian racing tracks, as, when in Auckland some few weeks since, he ep.-culated in a thoroughbred filly, and has sine© in Sydney bought Brilliant Boy (a Haut Boy gelding). The jumper Le Beau, who met with a mishap whilst jumping over sticks at Riccarton, was brought back to Auckland a day or two ago. Th© eon of Lcolands looks fairly well in condition. The pony Imprimus has been Bold by S. Hodge to a Wellington owner, and the daughter of Phoebus Apollo will compete at unregistered meetings. F. Hill left for the south yesterday with the two-year-old filly Antoinette. She will join D. "Mcraghan3 team at Wellington and will undergo her final preparation for engagements at the C.J.C. spring meeting under his supervision.
