STATUS IN NEW ZEALAND
CHRISTCHURCH, October 21. ' The following lesolutions dealing with the status of the Church vi England in New Zealand were adopted by the Diocesan Synod to-day :—": — " That while gratelully acknowledging the wisdom displayed by those who drew up the constitution of this Church ol the Pi o\ nice ot New Zealand, and while affirming that the Church of this province is mi full communion w&lh the Chunk ol England, thi« Synod aftiuns that the Church of this piovince, as a bianch ol the Catholic Church, inherently possesfic-f-the fullest powers of s^lf-goveinmenl ; (2) that it would be inexpedient to extiu^e such powers in altering any ot the hmdamental provisions of the constitution except under such saieguardsj as would ensure the fullest de!ibeia ( ion pud ( onbidciation by the whole Chuich of the pro\inee; (3) that in older to safeguard all lights of property, and to secure icgti.l recognition uf the autonomy and continuance of ideinitv of the Chinch ol this province, thi-, Synod piays the General Synod to piomcte fuch legislation in the New Zealand P.i'liamcnt as may best secuie such end.-: (4) that as the ba i is for such legislation, and io secure full e-\ idence of the exei-c.-e <<( the powers of self-government, this Synod considers that it should be auth'jritati\ e!y decided by the General Synod that no alteration of the fundamental clauses of the constitution or in the formularies of the Church herein referred to should be made, unless such alteration be first adopted in one General Synod and then be made known to and be formally approved by ifb " least a majority of Diocesan Syntms, and be afterwards finally connrmpl in the meeting of the General Synod Rhen next ensuing ; (5) that this Synod requests the bishop of the
diocese to take charge of these resolutions, and to move them in the next session cf the General Synod."
