October 25.— 0n Friday evening, 15th inst., the R«v. G. Cole, of the Central Mission, delivered his lantern recital, '"Waifs and Strays," in the 1 Mission Hall. Owinar to a counted- attraction, the r umber present was not large, but those absent missed a decided treat. Mr Col<?'s picture? were descriptive of hie rescue work in the slums ©f Melbourne, and the story connected with it was exceedingly well told. Those who hear Mr Cole's story will consider themselves very fcrtunat/-. for it is one that must appeal to every heart. Bazaar. — On the afternoon of the same " d-ay a bazaar as opened in th° school hall for tlu purpose of rai«:n« fund? to purchase a piano for the school. Mr \V. Macpherscm. chairman cf School Committee, presided, and introduced the Rev. W. Spenee to make the formal opening specc^i. -*This h-e did in a few neat and e-ppropriafce sentences, closing 'by wishing the bazaar every success. The following were the 6talls acid etall- holders :— Work stall, Mesdam&s BsH and F. M'Diarmid ; tqy stall, Mrs A. Thomson and Misses APKellar and Shaw : confectionery and fruit stall, Mrs Petrie ar.-d Miss Mann ; refreshment stall, Mrs Shaw an<j Mies A. Shaw. There was rhe u«ual sideshows found at bazaars, the whole making a very creditable display. The bazaar was open on the affcsrnoon and eveniinjr of Friday and Saturday, and wa« patroniso'l I>v very good) attendances of the public. The financial, results are nor yet known, but there is enough nionev in hand to piuclia'-a the piano, so the object of t!:e coinmiLV.? has been attained. Cantata. — On Friday ovenirg last a vcrv pretty cantata, called "Tha Rollins ftpa6ons." vas performed in the West Taipri Presbyterian ObuTch by the church choir, u.Did'3l' the leadership of Miss Daw. -on.
