regulations, and asking that the Kennel Club of England should move in the matter. After consideration of tha two letters the committee decided : — "That a letter be written to the Kennel Club of N.R.W. informing them that the Kennel Club has never received anj notification of the disqualification of officials and exhibitors at the show held by the British Terrier Club of Australia, nor of the alteration of certain rules or change of secretary of the Kennel Club of N.S.W. Also that a copy of the , letter published in Our Dogs and a copy of the regulations for th? affiliation of clubs, b-3 forwarded to Mr Crane, secretary of the Kennel Club of N.S.W., with a request that he will furnish a full explanation regardingthe alleged breach of regulations No. 2 i and 4, and, further, that he will furnish a full explanation with regard to the whole matter." — There- has bern a considerable amount of discussion in tho kennel papers of the Old Country respecting thp clasiificatioii of what is known as the Shetland collie. The Kennsl Club, at a meeting held in July last, refused to giant a license for a show to tho Inverness and North of Scotland Canine Society if clashes were included in the schedule for Shetland collies. By a subsequent decision, however, th" difficulties of the position appear 1o have been surmounted to the satisfaction of all parties by a change of name, the diminutive collie in question to ba in future called the Shetland sh&3p dog. — A correspondent to a Home paper writes d-pscribinsr the Shetland sheep dog as follows: — " Reiner rather interested in the very veK?d qrestion of the Shetland collie, and in that poor little mite's hard treatment at the hands of the Kennel Club and the Collip Clubs of England and Scotland, I rook the o, pot-tunity, during- a trip fn Shetland this -im.mor, of inc;uitimr on the spot about thp br<">d and examining a considerable numb >r of specimens. I found that their actually is such a breed, and although (owing to the fact that thTe vvas ' no Shetland Colli^ Club to encourage the breeding of peed degs until lately) many of the specimens to bf» seen in the islands i show traces of spaniol crossing, the collie is undoubtedly the jro\ "vninpr strain in the 1 uosrs, and many of the animals wpre real ' collies in miniature. Moreover. I found that the dogs were actual ly ussd by crofters for herding sheep, do. The establishment i of the Shetland Collie Club has gone a j long way to encourage the natives in the improvement of this most likeable and intelligent little dog, and I foresee a good future before him At present, owing to rh-> numi>er of dosrs sold to visitors, bitches arc much ni'v° in evidence- in tho islands than dons, bur breeders like Mwrs Losrgie (who has done so much for the Shetland collie), Laurenson. Jameson, the Hendersons of Spiggie, etc., should soon remedy this defect. I would ndv'se any fancier who can snare the time for a holiday in Shetland (and one can spend an ideal holiday tbare) to call and see Mr Loge-iVs kennels in Lerwick when he is north. The dubious one will, aft n r h<* has seen th°- inhabitants of rh'i kennel, which on my visit riumbercd over 25. com; 1 away, I (row me. convinced that Shetland collies are an actual living fact. I iho saw good dogs at Ppiggie. Levonwick. Poulio\^av. and Vaitchlev, and I think the Kennel Club will cnlv have to wait a short time to be oonvincd that th>;> breed is worthy of acknowledgment by them." j — A breeder of dogs in an eastern state, ' who guarantees the amiability of every dog he sells, hes adopted thp following plan to . te^t a dog's disposition. He uses what i might be called an "amiabilomcter." It j is sotpe sort of a contrivance which is fixed j to the doer's tail and determines the average number of times which be- wags his tail in an hour. The iheorv, of courfG, is that a dog wa-ririntr hi= tail 50 times an hour , has a much bctte'- disposition than oa< that I wags his tail only ten times. !
