THE PROPOSED THEATRE. ' LONDON. October 24. An enthusiastic meet ing "arranged by the Shakespeare Memorial Committee was hold at the Mansion House. Jt was decided to appeal for £500.000 for the purpose of founding a national theatre, of which £100,000 is to bs devoted to the purchi.=r of a. site, £150,000 to the building, an-d £250,000 for the endowment. The Executive Committee includes ih-3 Earl of Plymouth, the Earl of Lvtton, Viscount Esher, the Hon. Mrs Alfred Lyttelton. Sir John Hare, Mrs C!raTivil!e Ba, k:-ir, Mr A. W. Pine-ro, Mr Forbee-Rob-rt--on, Mr H. B. Tree, and Mr Bernard Shaw. They advocate the establishment of a National Shakespeare Theatre, at a '■cst of £500,000, and are unanimously of opinion that the proposal is a pract'cablo '.'io.
