OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting- of the committee of the Ocago A. and P. Society was held on 'Thursday evening, and was attended by Messrs \V. J. Charters (president, in the chair), J. Loudon, W. Souter, J. Angus, J. Smith. James Ross, Win, Grey, A. Johnson, J. Nimmo, A. M'Farlane, R. Acton-Adam?. A. S. Orbell, J. A. Roberts, T. E. Jefcoate. John Elliot. G- H. Gilroy, W. Patrick, J. Gow G. H. MacEwan, P. Pattullo. J. Wilson, W. Gardiner, D. Murray. E. Bowler, F. Freeman A. Todd, and T. T. Ritchie. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs James Macand'rew and J. R. Scott. The Chairman of the Btiildings Committee, reported on the prog-recs made in connection with the proposed addition to the society's premises in Crawford street, and stated thai, the architect now ha.d the pians and specifications ready, and that tenders would bs called for the erection of the buildings forthwith. The Secretary of the Agricultural Conference wrote forwarding copies of moticn.3 which had been carried at trie recent meeting in Wellington, and expressed the hope that the committee of the society -would co-operate with the other associations in taking the necessary steps to give effect to these- resolutions.-— It «\a3 unanimously resolved to_ heartily co-operate with 'kindred associations towards having these resolutions put into operation. The Auckland A. and P. Association wrote stating that for the purposo of securing uniformity of action in the general roana.gement of shows, and to make any disquali float' on general, .and arrange many details in which it would be advantageous to secure the co-operaiion of the various societies in matters, relating to agricultural subjects, the conference reoomrriprided that the various A. ai/d P-. Associations in each province^ should affiliate for the purpose of hoidiing a meeting of representatives from these societies at least once a year to discuss and secure the- various objects mentioned above, and if closer relationship should bo found necessary, the various provincial conferences might discuss whether anything would be gained by having the whole of the A. and P. Associations federated in each island or the whole of the Dominion, so that the delegates from each society represented at the next biennial conferen<»e could give the views of its association when the question came up for further consideration at the next meeting, which is to be held in Wellington about July, 1911. It was further recommended that the following associations be asked to take steps to give effect to this, recommendation : —Auckland, Manawatu. Hawke's Baj , Canterbury, Ocago, and Southland. — The cor.tents of ths letter were noted and referred to the executhe to deal with. It was resolved, in connection with a resolution passed at the recent Agricultural Conference in Wellington, to re\ ise the roll of judges, and this matter was referred to the various sub-committees to give effect to A letter was received from the Secretary of the Scottish Border Leicester Sheep Breeders' Association, Scotland, intimating that at the annual general meeting of the society, hold in the showyard of the Highland and Agricultural Society at Stirling on July 21, they had a-greed, after hearing the representations made by two delegates from this Dominion (Messrs Grant and Murdoch), to offer a goid medal at Dunedin, commencing with this year's show. The only conditions imposed were that it be awarded to the exhibitor who gained tho highest total ]>oints in three years, and that on the fourth year the meda-1 would again be g'ven by the society to be competed for under the «ime conditions, the society reserving alw.-ivs its right to withdraw it or alter its arrangements. Mr A. Murdoch also wrote in connection with the same matter. — It wa* resolved that the medal be accepted, and that the society of Border Leicester Sheep Bret-ders be written to and thanked for the offer. Mr H. E. B. Wat-on. .of Tai Tapu, Canterbury, wrote offering a silver cup valued at £3 3s for the~ br\»t group of Jersey cattle, made up of one male and three females, to bo the property of exhibitor. — It was unanimously revived to thank Mr vVat-on for his generous offer, but to mention that a« the schedule had b?en printed it wou'd be necessary to advertise the cup if donated for this year. Mr R. 11. Bi-jset. As - onda!e, wrote offering useful suggestions in connection with the judging of light hor.«rs at the coming Bummer show, and stated that he expected to bring a large number of entries to the fixture, which takes place at the end of November. The Forbury Park Trotting Club having-d-ecided to hold the first day of its spring meeting on the afternoon of Friday, the popular day of the show, it was resolved that a sub-committee, consisting of the president (Mr W. J. Charters) and Messrs J. Loudon, W. Patrick. R. Acton- Adams, A. Todd, and A. M'Fralane, be appointed to join with the deputation from the Dunedin Jockey Club to wait upon ihe Forbury

Park Trotting: Club with reference to the latter body fixing it 6 meeting for the People's Day of the society's summer show, and if the #answer - was unfavourable to the society, the committee named bo empowered to take any further steps it might deem pecessary. Todd.— The President remarked that it was gratifying to know that the citizens of Dunedin were reepondinpr so readily to the request of the committee to become members of the society.
