At a meeting of the Southland Branch of the Pipers and Dancers' Association, of New Zealand held to-night a communication was received from the Dunedin Branch in reference to competing at sports ifeef-tiPg 6 djinng ih© comng season, and

it was unanimously resolved — "Hiat the members of this branch thoroughly endorse the action of the Dunedin Branch in determining to preserve their independence. The following resolution was enthusiastically carried and sismed by the 23 competitors _ present — " We, the undersigned pipers and dancers of the Pipers and Dancers' Association of New Zealand, Southland Branch, hereby agree and pledge ourselves to abstain from competing at any sports meeting where bagpipe music and Highland dancing events are not under the sole control of the Pipers and Dancers' Association of New Zealand." It was stated that a very large number of pipers and dancers who were not present had signified their intention of supporting the Dunedin Branch in every way. and it was decided to forward the resolution for signature to all pipers and dancers throughout Southland. It was also decided to make arrangements for a programme of sports and spectacular displays to be held on or about November 24., this being the first effort of the kind made by the Southland Branch.
