August 27. Dear Pasquin, — Another step towards our new theatre; tenders are being called for by Mr Bennie, the architect. The site will be cleaied immediately, and the foundation of the King's Theatre should be laid early in the coming month. Geoffrey Nye has returned to New Zealand and has gone .on to Christchurch to manage the exhibition of the moving picture, "Drink," after which he will manage one of Mr Henry Hayward's enterprises. Miss Hardinge Maltby and her company of amateurs went to Palmerston this wee* and staged <v Niobe" as a sort of preliminary to the production in Wellington on Monday and Tuesday. The entertainment in the inland town was very successful. Mr Wally Bastin being exceedingly good as Peter Amos Dunn. For the performances in Wellington good houses are assured, for the booking has been excellent. Mr A. W. Batiste, who piloted the Royal Welsh Choir on their tour of the Dominion in February last, will most likely come across in the same capacity for the Amy Castles Concert Party. Nellie Stawart continues to do marvellous business at the Opera House. Last night "As You Like It" was witnessed by a packed house. The season concludes tomorrow night, . and then the company goes south Next Thursday we are to have "Jack and Jill." This is the final season of the company in New Zealand, the pantomime returning to Australia. Bengousrh opens his three nights' season in the Town Hail to-night. That astute manager, Mr Frederick Shipman, has seen to it that the cartoonist has been brought well before the public by medium of newspaper interviews. Professor Bonnor, who was in these parts in 1906 witfa Bostock and Wombwell's Circus, and wha used to hypnotise his assistant and bury him for a week, is stated to be a passenger on the missing Waraiah.
