DURBAN, June 25. The Transvaal has lent Natal £500,000 at pay at 3£ per cent. owing to an understanding that no South African colony \fill borrow in London pending the conclusion of the union. PRETORIA, June 25. Sixty Asiatics in the Transvaal were each fined £50 or three months' imprisonment for burning their registration certificates. MELBOURNE, June 24. 'Mr Deakin has cabled the Commonwealth's congratulations to the South African .National Convention on its decision in favour of union. WELLINGTON, June 24. • The Hon. J. Carroll has received a cablegram from Sir Joseph Ward from Adelaide stating that he has "cafiled as follows to the president of the . South African Convention :—": — " On behalf of the Government and people of New Zealand I desire to offer my heartiest congratulations upon the consummation of the great work of South African Union. I am satisfied that it makes a distinct step forward, not only in the prosperity of South Africa itself, but in the consolidation of the Great Empire to which we are all proud to belong and are so anxious to see strengthened."
