Cocmbas, president of the Amateur Athletic Union of Australasia, attended the meeting, and th© question of v the International Olympic Games to be held in Berlin in 1912 was considered. Mr Coombes explained what had been done in the past in regard to these international sports, and in regard to the establishment of an International Amateur Sportingf Federation and Olympic Games Committee in each State of Australasia. It was expected that such committees would be enabled to come into these international sporfc competitions with the same status as that held by representatives of any other nation. He thought it would in the present circumstances bs unwise for New Zealand to appoint a special repiiesenlative in regard to these games, but he expressed the- opinion, that aa Olympic Committee should be appointed, preferably in Wellington, which would chooso its own. representatives. . He would gladly act as the medium for conveying the wishes of that committee to the secretary of tho Olymoic Games. Tho Chairman said, that aifter .hearing Mr Coombes's remarks it would b& well for the association to havo a special meeting to consider the matter, for there was I np use .in going on with the proposal to i ask for recognition as- a separate nation. \The best cour©» was to appoint, an Olympic Gam-ss-Comm itteev . This was accordingly done. , ' „ In regard to the proposed visit of It. E. Walker to Australia, "Mr Coombes said sit was thought that, roughly, the- cost for a. two and a-half. .or three months' tour by, the South African 100 yards champion, amateur and his - trainer would be stSoufc £300, and ifc . had been suggested that this sum could be cue up in equal proportions between New South "Wales, "Victoria", and New- Zealand, and a smaller share- by TosmanJA and Queensland. Mr Coombes also 6ugg\i>2d that Dtsncker or Heffernan should? be invited to visit Australia. It was -decided that the council would support -the protjosal to bring Walker to Australia and New Zealand on terms to be a.rrange.d with the Australian Stutesr and also that another athlete from South. Africa should be invited lo accompany Walker, either a sprinter -or a,' hurdler.
