DUNEDIN BURNS CLUB.

The monthly meeting of the Burns Club, held in the Art Gallery on the 16th, was well attended, many of those occupying peats in the audience having come from Long distances, <he wet night nofcwith1 standing^ The gathering was presided I over by Mr A. Bain (president), who I briefly explained the objects of the Burns Club," which, of course, inoluded a study of Scotland's greatest -poet (Robert Burns). In this connection he had great pleasure in announcing that Dr Gordon Mapdonald. a good friend to the club, had presented a very fins photograph of Burns'e two sons, which would be framed and then exhibited at the next meeting. I A long programme of musical items was opened by a selection by Pipe-major M'Callum, who, the chairman announced, had taken the place of Piper M'Donald (resigned). The choir, under the baton of M.r. A. M. Biw'k, contributed part 6ongs very effectiveily. The soloi6ts of the evening were Mcadames J. Maclennan and J. Scunr, Misses M. Pound, E. Waddell, Messrs A. M'Leod, 0/ M'Kenna, Vonderslute, J. Bennett, and Braik. . Mrs./. Maclennan recited very cleverly ' Pittm in the Cries," a. subject, the chairman said, that would bo fully understood by the older members who were married in tho Old Country. Mr J. Wood effectively te- i cited Bracken's " Not Understood as a i musical monologue. Miss E. Wright played the piano accompaniments in a manner that pleased both singers and the ; audience. The •tfirvginfr ° f "Auld Jang . Bvne" closed the musical part of the o-athering, and a dance programme followed for the benefit of the younger members and their Triends.
