A most enjoyable fancy dress vance was _ given by the members of the Kelburne M.A. • ', Society' at the Boulcott Street liall last | Friday evening. Some of the costumes were very pretty and most effective. Miss j Hamilton "was very picturesque as a Maori | girl, the Misses Nation as cherry girls, Miss B. Bascoe, a country girl; and Mrs Knowles | as Kight, in. a biilliant spangled costume. . Amongst others were: — Miss E. Millais, Irish girl ; the Misse3 Quick, Osmond, and 7 Goldfieid, Norwegian girls; Miss E. Pascoe, . Winter ; Miss M. Cox, Dutch girl ; Miss N. Knowles, Gipsy; Miss Turner, Highland lassie; Miss O. Joseph, red, white, and .blue; Miss C. Oswin, pink rose; Miss M. [ Webb, Spanish girl ; Mr H. Webb, French ' count ; Mr W. Morrali, pierrot ; Mr B. Hodgkins, cricketer; Mr L. Henderson, " clown ; and Mr Hyams, tennis. . , j Major an<! Mrs" Hughes, -who went to Sydney for their wedding trip, have left ' for Engia-nd by the Messa-geries Maritimes boat Salazil. - .. | Mrs Buchanan (Hawera) is at present the guest of Mrs Tweed. . j Mrs Wallace, of BalsweU street, gave a pleasant "At hams" as a. farewell io Mrs 'Furby. who is shortly leading for Auckland. Mrs Boys (Christchurch) has come to Wellington to say farewell to Lady Ward. s Miss Gerald Doorly (Dunedin) is staying in Welling-ton for a couple of weeks. The engagement i 3 announced of Miss Violet Twigg to Dr Winstone St. John, of Derby, England. An enjoyable afternoon tea was given by Mr and Mrs Hwang, the Chinese Consul and his wife, last Wednesday. The rooms were prettily decorated with flowers, md the hostes3 received in her picturesque Chinese dress of brocade and black satin. Amongst the guests present were the wives of the Consuls, the Mayoress, and! Mrs Findlay. j Mrs Moriah gave a tea foi her daughter. Mrs P. Hunter (Napier), who is at present • her guest. . .
