CHRISTCHURCH, June 16.
The request of a deputation of ministers which waited oh the Education Board at its last meeting, that the Bible be read during school hours for half an hour eaol week, came np for discussion -it the board's meeting this morning. The following motion was carried :—": — " That the board expre.=ses its sympathy with tho-ie who desire that religious education should Ibe given to the children of Canterbury, but does not think it ' desirable that the •five hours each day now given to other subjects should be curtailed, especially as those schools and schoolmasters where relicioufi teaching is given would be ha*i- , dacaoped .In ths race with, other schools in the subjects in the ordinary syllabus."
