A THWARTED BURGL AR.
AUCKLAND, June 14. Constables fTalliday and' Bradley at 1.30 thus morning found a man named Henry Wilcocks under suspicious circumstances at a corner of Seafield View and Khyber Pass. On searcliing him they found a dynamite fuse, some caps, and putty skeleton keys. Wilcc-eks did not deny the purpose for ■which he was so liberally provided, and admitted that he had intended to "crack" Stevens' s grocery store. The poflioe subsequently searched Wilcocks's residence at Mount Roskill, and found more dynamite fuse and caps, which, together with the previous seizure, accounted for the theft of some explosives from a shed at the Mount Lden quarry.
Few people appear to have remembered thai the assembling of Parliament this session foil on the aniversaxy of two eventa memorable in New Zealand. Exactly 23 vear3 ago the Taxawera eruption occurred. Twenty years later, also on the 10th June, 1 our late Prime' Minister, the Hon. R. J. I Saddon. died at sea.
