LIABILITIES AT THE CLOSE OF THE YEAR. (Faoai Oxm Own Cobbespondent.) WELLINGTON, June 10. An abstract of the liabilities of the Dominion outstanding on March 31 last, j received from the Auditor-general, was 1 presented to the House this afternoon by tlie Speaker. The return shows liabilities totalling no less a sum than £1,405,800, the principal terns being as follow : — .Public Wqrks Fund £1,054,427 I Consolidated Fund 287,132 Railway improvement account 22,494 I Wellington-Hutt i ail way and j road improvement account 19,6^8 1 Public Trustee's account ... 7,756 Loans to local bodies account 5,978 Land for settlements account 2,544 Deposits National Endowment account 1856 Government insurance account 1,213 A caucus of Government supporters, presided over by the* Prime Minister, was held to-day, and was - attended by 44 members, while seven others were accounted for. • i J The Prime Ministsr, in explaining the j business 'to be discussed, said there would be a Loan Bill. It- would be necessary to increase the unauthorised expenditure, j but every item would be on the Esti- j mates when Parliament resumed. The matter of the Government's offer of a j Dreadnought would also be brought forward.
