SYDNEY TRADE CONFERENCE. OTTAWA, May 14.

The Montreal Board of Trade on the 7th inst. unanimously agreed to submit a resolution to the Sydney Conference in favour of the Empire protecting itself against foreign producers. Hence Britain and her colonies should grant each other substantial preference and, as f ar as their respective \revemies would permit, the principle of free trade within the Empire would remain.

Mr George, an ex-president, was chosen as a delegate to the Sydney Conference, but he has since resigned on the ground that the resolution is ill-considered and at variance with the national trade policy of Canada.

A special meeting of the board ■will be held next -week to i-econsider the resolution*
