EMPLOYEES' BENEFIT SOCIETY

The annual meeting of the X-ew Zealand Coal and Oil Company's Employees' Benefit Society was held on Saturday evening at Kaitongata. there being an average attendance. In the absence of the president, Mr J. Hay presided.

The minutes of the previous annual me iting were read -and confirmed, and the balance sheet, which was regarded as very satisfactory, wa-> adopted.

Mr Webster, in a few complimentary re« marks, mo\ed a vote of thanks to the w»« tiring officers, and this was seconded b< Mr E. M'Lachktn, and carried unani« niously. The election of officers thsn took place r and resulted as follows: — President, Mr A. VVeston ; secretary. Mr J. R. Hunter (rev elected) : treasurer, Mr W. Boylan (i-*« elected) : committee- Messrs D. Coulter. A. Bi,s?r. E. Ball, J. Forrester, W. Shalliah, and J. Shore.

A meeting to consider the annual picnic was afterwards held, when it wa> decidedto approach the Government Railway Department for the usual train anangemenf-s. • the rendezvous or place of picnic to ha considered when a reply i* receued fromthe department. Opinions at the meeting were evenly divided between Lawrence and' Houipapa (Catlins district). The arrangements were Mfc in the hands of tl c «oci©ty's executive, with power to adcl to their number. Mr J. Shore was appointed 1 secretary.

A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the me?ting. The balance «heet showed the receipts of the sick and funeral fund to have been:' Contributions £269 19s 3d, interest! f.l 17s 9d. balance from previous year £100;— total. £372 3s 4d. The expenditure vac: Sick allowance £259 0s lOd, death of member's wife £5: carried forward, £6S. 2<> 6d. The receipts of the medical and! management fund were: Contributions £524^ 6.' 9d, balance from previous year £165 17s lOd. The principal iton,* of expenditurewere—medical officer £^39 19> 6d. medicine; £169 19s 9d, salaries £37 10s, other small sunn bringing the total up to £556 16s 3d, thus leaving- a balance of £141 8s 4d t-tf cany forward.
