BLUESKIN A AND P. SOCIETY.

FORTY-FIRST AxNNUAL SHOW.

The forty-fir&t annual show under the «.U6pvees of the Blueskin Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held at Coteban's paddock, Waitati, on the 13th. The morning was showery, and an overcast &*..> inuioated a wet day, but shortly after midday there was a 'break in the clouds, and a fine afternoon followed, with the result that the show was attended by almost as large a gathering of patrons as in former years, the gate takings being over £21, as against £22 the previous year. The Hon. T. Mackenzie forwarded a telegram regretting his inability to be present, and wishing the show every success, and among the visitors on the ground we noticed Mr E. H. Clark, M.P. The entries showed a falling off in the cattle and draught hoie-a classes as compared with last year, but this was more than compensated for by the increased entries in light harness horses and riding hacks. The few working draught horses j shown were of the usual type to be seen in Blueskin and surrounding districts — good useful horses, showing many good breeding points, and capable of plenty of work on the farm oar roadways. A ring of five dry marea in this class was specially commended by the judge, and the brood mares were pronounced to be also a good lot. The geldings, however, were not a particularly good lot, but the youmg stock showed much promise. Mr J. Clark carried off champion honours for entires, and Mrs K. , B. Ferguson secured the champion card for her fine mare Princess. Thoroughbredswere represented .by four entries only in the dry mare, gelding, and filly classes, and the first award went to D. O'Connor, jun. Ooaohers and hacks were a large and mixed class, and there were some fairly good animals amongst th«m, th© two-year-old backney by Rothschild being commended by the judjje. The ponies, spring carters, and dog -cart hoirses were good average specimens of their respective classes. In the cattle classes, although there was a falling-off numerically, there was no deterioration in quality as compared with recent years. The Ayrshire and crossbreds with this class of cattle, and the shorthorn are the breeds most in favour in the district, and they constitute a good, hardy stock, showing exoellc-ail jndlkin.g qualities and compact build. The purebred Ayrshires shown "were a fair standard, and the crossbrede all through were a good type, while the general cattle were a good stamp of dairying cattle, every animal shown being healthy and in good condition. The leading Ayrshire bull, Governor, bred by Mr W. Cowan, was in good show condition, and the champion cow, Mary, imported by Mr P. Ire- ' land, and bred by Mr. Howie, Galston, Scotland, was a good specimen of her. class, and was specially commended by the judge. She-op were numerically a small class, but these shown were in good condition, the prize wethers exhibited by Mr Kilpatrick being Rommeys, and Mr Fenwick's prizetakers being Leicesters. Pigs and poultry were, as usual, represented by small entries, Orokanui Home sending forward for exhibition only excellent specimens of Pekin and Indian runner ducks, and a B-erkehiie boar. The dogs exhibited were a good useful working lot, without any strong pretension as a whole to special points in breeding. The judging gave general satisfaction, and the officials throughout exerted themselves in every way to make the show arrangements work smoothly. Mr P. Ireland escured most points for the special prize (cup, value £4 4s) for most points gained in the cattle, horse, swine, dog, and poultry classes. The following is the prize-list: — CATTLE.
