Farewell Social.— A large number of the friends of Mr J. Keely. who has been in charge of Mrs Schrick's bakery and butchery for the past seven years, met him on Munday night last to bid him goodbye and to show their regret at his intended departure. The affair was got up hurriedly, but a sociable and agreeable two hours were spent. A nhcrt and good programme was contributed to l<y Miss Stevenson (recitation. " The Wax "of the World ). Rev. R H. Mr Keely's good points tfere happily enumerated, and his skill ks a baker of the necessary loaf and luxurious " smallgoods," his reliability and sportsmanlike conduct as a cricketer, his civility jknd obliging disposition were all deservedly touched upon, while Mr M'Skimtrung said that the business of his sister |Mrs Schrick) had been very greatly improved through the capability and attention to business of Mr Keely. The latter |nodestly acknowledged the gift and the »ocompanying remarks, and assured his friends that he valued their gift very mucb,

and that he would remember his Patearoa friends all his life. A further present, it was announced, would be forwarded to Mr Keely. The ladies present provided nice refreshments, and Mrs Kennedy, with her usual kindness, went to some trouble in prenaring tea. Miss Mary Carr played the accompaniments to the songs. " He's a jolly good fellow " and " Auld lang s\ne M were followed by a dance.
