Notes from Alexandra. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ALEXANDRA, January 16.
Mining is assuming a much brighter aspect in the immediate locality just now. The discovery of alluvial ground containing rich wash near Alexandra has raised the hopes of miners, and it is a matter for regret that water in the locality mentioned is so scarce. However, there is talk of bringing in water from -the further back ranges, and should this follow a small rush is likely to set in. On £he other hand, nuartz mining is receiving attention. At Conroy's Gully a small battery has been purchased for the mine owned by Everitt and party, and this is being removed to the claim. Several othdr areas have been pegged out, and should prospecting operations prove successful the- future outlook of the- immediate district never seem-ad brighter. I was informed to-da.y that a third share in a prospecting area at Conrcy's had changed hands at something ov^er £100.
