January 2.— During the week a few showers have fallen, but not sufficie-nit for the farmers, who are still wanting more. Harvesting has already started at Gibbston. Owing to the unprecedentedly dry season the crops throughout the district will be poor. Tourist Traffic. — During the holidays a very large number of people from all parts of the Dominion, have visitsd Queenstown. The excursions to the- Head of the Lake have been well patronised, about 150 persons booking for Elfin. Bay and Glenorchy on Monday last. ■ Personal.'— The Rev. H. Blathwayt, who ■w*s recently ordained at Dunedin, has been appointed assistant curate to the Rev. H. Packe, and Has taken up his duties. — Mr J. K. Paton, of the Bank of N«w Zealand, accompanied by Mrs Paton and family, returned to Arrowtown Jasfc weak for the purpose of spending their holidays in that town.' His many friends will be pleased! to learn that Mr Paton 's hea.ii.li iias been greatly improved by his sojourn in Nelson. He intends to return to NeLion after the holidays, and will take up his banking duties in February. Post Office Change.— Mr R. Eeeie, who has been in charge of the Que-enstown Poet Office for a number of years, has been promoted to the position of postmaster at Lyitelton. Many will regret to hear of Mr Keele's departure, as he proved himself * good citizen, and took a keen interest in anything for the town's advancement. He has taken a special interest in rowing matters, and was president of the Queenstown Rowing Club. On Monday evening last the members of that club presented Mr Keele with a case, of pipes. Mr J. A. Alg'ie, relieving officer, has been appointed postmaster at Queenstown. Mr A%ie isnot a stranger here, as he was some years ago postmaster at Arrowtown. Mr Algie arrived on Wednesday, and Mr Keele took his departure this morning. Weddings. — Two marriages have taken pace in the district din-ing the week. At St. Pails Church, Arrowtown, on "Wednesday, Mr R. Whytock, of Gore, and Miss Alice Rushton, third daughter of Mr B. Rush+on, of Arrbwtown, were joined in j the bonds of w-cdlocjc by the Rev. H. Packe, On fche same iiy, at Cardrona, Mr Liak-s, of Waikaia, and Miss Mabel Scurr, daughter of Mr David Sourr, of Cardrona, were united in the bonds of w-edilock. Both couples were the recipient* of many useful and handsome presents. Arthur's Point Spcrfcs.— The annual sports w.?re held a-t Arthur's Point on Monday la*t.
