Woodthorpe, M.A., was as follows: — " I am thankful to record that the past year has been marked by a decided increase in the number of students in Selwyn t College, and by the erection of a new dining hall, which has been rendered necessary by the increase of our numbers. At the college I have accepted applica- • tions for the next year from 26 students, ; 10 of whom are students in theology, 10 in medicine, two in law, and four in arte, and I have had to refuse others through lack of accommodation. If we had the rooms we could easily double our numbers for the coming year.. The Collegiate School has done" excellent w,ork during the year under the care of the head master, Mr J. S. Lomas, 8.A., and his able assistant, Mr E. K. Lomas, M.A., M.Sc., i and the results of the term examinations are decidedly encouraging. Three boys , entered for the recent, University exami- i nations — two for medical preliminary and • one for matriculation,: — and we look for- | ward to -the results with interest. The health of the boarders in the warden's , lodge has been excellent, and the boys have J done fairly well in their sports under the ' care of the house master, Mr E. K. Lomas. The head master tells me that he has j received a number of applications for the next year, and I truet that the school, .' under his careful and skilful management, | will grow and prosper. As warden of the college, I desire- to express my -deep Igratitude to the ladies and gentlemen | who have so kindly responded to my appeal j for the new dining hall. I have been : greatly encouraged by their kind apprecia- j tion and ready response. The dining hall j will .cost £250. for which I am personally • responsible, and I have been able to collect X £180. The balance " I hone to obtain as soon as I can claim a little leisure." Addresses were delivered by the Primate, Dean Fitchett, and Canon Woodthorpe. Thanks were returned to Mrs De Beer, the warden (Rpv. Canon Woodthorpe). Mr Statham, and Mr F. T. Little for donations of prizes.
