D.A.A.C. EVENING MEETING.

It x takes more than execrable weather to quench the ardour of the enthusiastic amateur athlete and tho lover of athletics. Bitter and unsociable as wa6 the weather <on Friday evening, athletes turned out in full force to compete at the second evening meeting of, the on the Caledonian Ground. The fields were excellent, and, despite the greasy turf, the racing was ot gocvJ quality and decidedly Interesting. The presence of Hector Burk lent adidtional interest to the meeting, but the champion was making his first appearance*, and was evidently not in form. The final of the " Hundred " produced a gocd finish, Allen winning on the j tape from a buche<l field D. Carline. off ] 25yds, bad no Hifrkahy in winning* the Half-.' mile ' Walk, while D. MacFarlane was too superior to everything else in the "Weight-putting. A big field turned out in the 350 yds Flat, and there wa« a doal of bumping round the curves. The hack•markers had no chance to get through, and Will won easily at the finish. The best race of the evening was the Two-mils Flat, tho finish of which saw M'Knight awl Scott fighting out the places, but the former maintained his lead to the tape- Following are the detail*: — 100 yds Flat Handicap. The big field swept away in the order of their handicaps, and a good race ensued. The back-markers could not get through, and the limit man had the race to themselves. Will won easily at the finish. Burk was going *»easy in the rear, but the handicap was tco g-reat, and tho o.ne-time champion was set an impoesibjp task. At the bell for the last lap M^Knight, who had been running well throughout the race, dashed to the front. Going down trie back stretch Scott lengthened out, end tried to get on level terms with the leader. A great race ensued up the straight, Scott^ coming with U fine burst of speed, just failed to catch M'Knight, who won a capital race b\three yards. Time, lOmin 38sec.
