FRANCI SCO BRITISH EXHIBITION.
SOME NEW ZEALAND TRIUMPHS. STAPLE INDUSTRIES NEGLECTED. (From Omt Owk Cobbespondznt.) LONDON, October 16. The official list of awards at the FrancoBritish Exhibition, which was published yesterday, is stated to be complete, but several classes in which New Zealanders are interested do not appear to have been judged. New Zealanders generally will regret that in eevaral v of our staple industries the exhibits were not made sufficiently convincing to secure first honours from or with, the States which are. our competitors. In vegetable food products five Australian States score the grand prize ; New Zealand as a State is not there. In animal food products it is the same. In non-edible agricultural products and appliances New Zealand takes the diploma of honour, while the grand prize goes to several of our rivals. The three highest class prizes for preserved meats go to our rivals. New Zealand companies lagging wearily in the fourth and fifth classes. In rope we are relegated to the fourth class, and in leather and skin to the third. In woollen manufactures, however, three New Zealand companies stand conspicuous in the grand prize list. In workers' dwellings we are defeated by, the Co-operative Tenants' Housing Council; in 'Movements for the welfare of the people " we are unheard of ; but in " Provident institutions " the Government of New Zealand wins the grand prize. Nobody will believe that New Zealand could not have been placed alongside pur strongest rivals in such classes as preserved meats. THE LIST.
