TAIERI DRAINAGE APPEALS.
The Assessment Court, over which Mr H. Y. Wktelowson, S.M., presided, sat jb* Mosgiel on Monday to continue the hearing of appeals against the classification of lands by the laieri Drainage Board valuerß. Mr J. MacGregor appeared for the board. The first case taken was that of Thomas Hewitt, and after hearin.? the evidence the magistrate held that the classification of - the farm in Class " A " must be sustained, and dismissed the appeal. The case of the Tauwma Estate (George Nichol), in which decision had kee» reserved, was then taken, and Mr Widdowson ga\e his judgment, upholding ijho classification. He had come to the oonclusion, aftpr much -consideration send having twice visited the estate, that it must bo treated as a whole, and that as the> whole estate benefited by the existence «nd maintenance of the embankment, -and also by the drainage operations, the whole estate should be in "Class A. His Worship mentioned that lie thought there was reason to believe that a mistake had been made in regard to Blair's farm in reducing it all to Class B, as he thought part of it should have been retained in Class A. ..,,-, The court will sit *gain in Mosgiel on Thursday.
The number of subscribers to the Auckland city electrical supply ia steadily increasing^ and it is anticipated by the engineer (Mr Wyllie) - that by the end of the fir^t year's working of the plant, in February, there will be at least 200 subscribers. This is regarded as a very «■*»• factory rate of development.
