REGIMENT'S HISTOKIC COLOURS. MAORI WAR RELICS. .

(Feom Oub Own Correspondent.) AUCKLAND, November' 24. In reply to a request for the sanction of the officer commanding the 2nd Northamptonshire Regiment (the old 58th), the Mayor yesterday received a communication that the regiment would offer no objection to the removal of its old colours from their present resting place at the Supreme Court (where they were placed at the clo.^e of the regiment's operations in the Maori War) to a position more accessible to the view of the general public. This matter has been mooted for some time past, and a few months back Mr Myers wrote to the Minister for Justice asking his concent to the removal of these regimental emblems to the Public Library, but was informed that the reque&t could not be granted without the consent of the officer commanding the regiment. It eeemp probable, in view of the favourable answer from that gentleman, that the removal of these honouiable relic 6 of war to the Free Library may shortly take place.

Since the Sydney City Council authorised a female inspector- to instruct mothers in nuivmg, there has been a. etriking falling,, off in the death rate of infants during the four years of the appointment.
