Octooer 24.— 1 think the difficulty of getting weather to satisfy the waoxts of everybody has been recognised some time now. Las* weak that old trouhls was again, prominently emphasised. Graae, lambs, crop*, and stock are in a very, flourishing condition, and, taking every* tiring on the wJbole, these is * very promising outlook for bit© season. Literary and Debating Society.— Th« second last m>seirV.g of this society was held in the OddfellowsT Hall en Monday evening, 12th inst. It tcok the form of a* meek banqus't, and, though bhe elemeniss warred, there waa a very gocd attendance, two long tables being fairly wedl filled. Mr Sma.il (presiderat of tho society) presided at cine, and <tihe Rev. J. M'lnn-es at» tho oth«r. Toasts "to " The King," " Par-« liamemt," "Army aaid Navy and Voliuik tears," " Agricultural and Faetaral In-< terests," "Post and Telegraph Department," " Educataonol Interests," "Tim Ladies and tbe Bachelors" were proposed and, responded" to by the ' different members of the- society. Songs were given by somio of the musical members, ami aJtcgiether & profitable and enjoyable evening) waa spent. The- last meeting 6t the eociety wiil ba principally taken up with a farce .to rbe acted by membere, and musical ■item*, followed by a dunce. No-license. — The No-lrceaas party of tha Wakaitipxv elaotorate were fortunate in eecurrnsr the services of two able epeaJoers in the temperamce cause, in- the persons of the Revs. Messrs Da-orson and Fes, of Wellington. Mr Daw&on spoke in the Drill Hall, llivcrsdaAe, cm. Monday evening last, and in a touching and eloquent address pointed to the eviis which he aaid resulted from the eale of aJcoboiic liqriors. Mr Fee did not speak here, but did co in the neighbouring districts. Political. —Mr • Fraser, our prelent member, and candidate in the Opposition cause, addressed tlio ©lectora of Rrversdaleon Tuissday ev-sni-ng, 20th inst There was a good attendance, and Mr J. Gee wa* in the chair. After an- able address, Mi* J. SmaoJ, repreeentativo of tha looaH branch of the Farmers' Union, questioned Mr Fra&sr oa mabter3 concerning -that body. Mr Andrew Martin, the Ministerial ca-ndidaite. spoke in the Da*iU Hall on Friday evening' laat. Owingto the inclement sbute of the weather only about 100 electors were present. An attentive hearing' was given, him. and the stock-in-trade questions of the Farnnere' Unionwere dace more presented, »*nd were satisfactorily answered. A vote of thanke brought, the meeting to a close.
