THE RESIDENTIAL COLLEGE.
The Presbytery, at the came meeting, -discussed the proposals regarding the appointment of & principal for the Resii dential College. The matter was raised by an letter from the Rev. A. Cameron. The Rev. T. Neave asked what was the endowment originally aimed at. I The Moderator (the Rev. J. Clarke): £15,000. j The Rev. T. Neave: And £1500 has been raised. The Rev. Mr Porter thought they would not be justified in recommending theAssembly to ofEer a salary of £600 a year .when there was noi endowment to provide the salary. He did not see why one of the professors should not be asked to go into residence as principal of the college until the time' arrived when the Church or some generous member should provide tli© necessary endowment. He moved that in view of the present state of the endowment fund, the Assembly be recommended to make no permanent appointment, but that one of the theological professors be asked to enter into residence in the meantime, and to give an oversight to the students. The Rev. T. Neave seconded this, intimating that he had intended to more a similar motion. The motion was agreeoSto.
