Problem 2620 (Author unknown).—Thit, position was submitted to' Mr Borehanr for solution, and, after examination, he offered our readers a copy of Lees' Guide for best solution. Black. 12, 17, kings 19,23. White: 29, 31. kings 5, 9. Black to play:i what result ? The following is- Mr Boreham's solution.—
i Black wins by well-known position.
Then. 6 10 and the cut 23 26; B. win first position.{ (a) 9 5, 10 6, 31 27, 6 10, brings up trunk play. (b) 29 25, 22 29, 13 22, 23 26, 22 17, 29 25, B. wins. (c) 9 14, 22 18, 31 26, 18 9. 26 19, and B. wins by getting a cut on the man on 28, 'when it comes down.
| Black wins. (k) 13 17 makes a nice variation, but Black would then prevent the man on 14 from getting on to 5, thus retaining the move.
B, wins.. (a) 27 24, 1 5, etc., wins for Black. One might give as much more play an this position to prove thf.t the play given _ is correct fot a.Black win. but for practical purposes the above is sufficient.—J. A. B. Only two fc%lutions have been- r«cemd, and Mr Boreham's remarks on -=these will appear next week.—Db. Ed. Problem 2621 (By Robt. Boswell).—Black-; 3. 14, 28. White:"ll, 12, 23, 26. White tfl
