MUNICIPAL FISH MARKETS. CHRISTCHURCH, October 16.

The secretaiy to the Marine Department has written to the Christchurch City Council advocating the establishment of municipal fish markets in the principal towns of the Dominion, it having been brought under the notice of the department that such markets would be a boon to fishermen and the public, ensuring fishermen a fair price for fish, and con- | sumers supplies at a lower rate. The [ Seci'etary asked the council to consider the matter. Mayor states that the council has considered and suspended further action until the Government has introduced legislation making it compulsory to sell all fish in municipal markets where such are established. The last Municipal Conference made s»uch a recommendation, but the Government had done nothing in the matter yet.
