BRITISH TRADE COMJIfSSI OXER.

(From Ora Own Co-respondent.) WELLINGTON, October 7. Mr G. H. F. Rollesfcon (second - eoh of the Jate Hon. W. Rolleston, and son-in-law of Mr H. D. Bell, K.C.), who was recently appointed British Trade Commissioner in Xcw Zealand, arrived from London yesterday. Mr .Rolleston, who served in the South African war as a member of the Fourth Contingent, sußsequently was a magistrate in the Transvaal, and then went to London. Mr Rolle&ton states that his appointment was due to H'w Joseph Ward, who, when at the Imperial Conference, laid much etress on the need of representatives of British traders being stationed in the automonouo colonies. In regard to trade at Home, Mr Rolleston said the trade figures had certainly been lei& than they had been for some years previously, but he believed the depression would be but temporarily. There wv.s one thing that impresred him greatly when meeting manufacturers and exporters in London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Sheffield, and ■Manchester — viz., the great importance attached to Scvs Zealand trade, in combination with the hiph esteem in which bu-i nes« iclatiors with this country were h°ld. It was generally reeognfeod that biibinesa in Xfw Zealand was on a very, (sound footing. The greatest assistance was afforded Mr Rolleston wherever he went, and the Chambers of Commerce as well a« individual manufacturers gave hint the fullojiit information. Mr Rolleston. purpot-os making a complete tour of th© Dominion to study its trade generally, 30 as to be able to give the utmost a&6i6tanc« to British traders.
