I -A large gatheiing of settlers from the ! ,' Biil.'er Valley and eilizere of Nelson was i held at Kohatu on Saturday to discuss 1 limtters in connection with the welfare of the district. The meeting expressed 6atis-- ' faction at tlie authorisation of the exten- ; 1 sion of the Midland railway to Hope | ; road at the Kelson end. It was decided j to urge the Government to actively prosecute the completion of the line, and to transfer the men available through the • completion of the North Island Trunk
line. It was pointed out that the line would be of little use until it reached Hope, as the freights over the Hope saddle are at present heavy.
