FEDERATED LABOUR.

DRESSMAKERS' UNION WANTED. CHKISTCHURCH, October 7. At a general meeting of the Canterbury Federation of Unions, held last evening, ifc was decided that an effort should be made . to. organise the dressmakers oE Christchurch into a union. It was 6tatedl that a very large body of badly paid! workers were engaged in the dressmaking branch of the clothing trade. The wages received by them were fa rbelow those of women and girls employed in other industries where unions existed, and that in' spite of the fact that the work called for far greater skill and care on. the part' of the operatives. The committee was instructed to inquire into the matter and report to the next meeting.
