TARANAKI.
A meeting held at EJtham unanimously a motion urging the Government to construct a line from Opunake to Eltham for ti*e following among otljer reasons :- — That' the country between Opunake and Eltham is densely settled, that a railway "Observe is now vested in the Government, and that the upkeep of the Eltham road is almost beyond the financial powers of the settlers, and a railway would give relief. A strong committee was formed to prees iihe Government to publish the reports of the engineers and their estimates for the Mr Fitzherbert, S.M., on August 30 dismissed the application by the Crown for a rehearing of the charge against the licensee of the Taranaki Hotel of permitting drunkenness on his premises, a case which excited remarkable interest.
