IMPLEMENTS AT SHOWS.
THE EXHIBITORS' VIEW. (Fsoii Our Own Cobbespondent.) CHRISTOHURCH, August 19. The question of the display of agricultural implements at the show, which was abandoned last year, came before the A. and P. Association to-day, when a deputation comprising. Messrs J£eir (P. and D. Duncan), Campbell (Massey-Harris Company), and M'Conanons (International Harvester Company) urged that a reduction be made in the charges for space in the agricultural implement portion of the show. Mr Keir said he thought the association might, with mutual advantage, reduce the charges or them altogether. The expense of manufacturing and marketing the implements had increased enormously during the last few years.^ The resultant trade did not warrant the neavy expenditure incurred in making exhibits. The association had given practically no prizes, and it would pay it better if it gave the space freejof cost. The expenses of getting the machinery to and from the grounds, and incidental expenses were extremely heavy. The- Chairman assured the deputation that its recommendation would be fairly dealt with. Subsequently Mr Murphy said it was impossible to talk of allowing space free. The income of -the l,ast show had been £114, and the expenditure in medals, judging, etc., £63, leaving a balance of about £51. Mr Beaven said that the implement people were not reasonable in their demand, when the heavy expense of housing, etc., was taken into aocount. Mr Lowrie suggested that the association limit the medals to those implement exhibits with which practical working demonstrations were being made. After a short discussion it was decided to refer the application to the Finance and the Implement Committee to deal with.
