Obituary. — It is my sad duty this week to have to record the death of a very old resident of the Macetown district. I refer to Mrs Charles Patton, who passed away at her Tiome at Macetown on Friday morning, after a long illnees. The deceased lady had been a resident of Macetown for over 40 years. She was of a quiet and retiring disposition, and was highly respected and esteemed by those who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. She was ever ready to assist her neighbours in their troubles, and with her husband, went through all the hardships of the early digging days. She was a sister of Mr John Jenkins, a well-known farmer on the Crown Terrace. She leaves a husband and two daughters (Mrs D. Brodie and Mrs E. Thompson) to mourn the loes oi an affectionate wife and mother. The funeral took place at Arrowtown yesfcerdav afternoon, when a very large number followed the remains to their last resting place. In the absence of the Rev. Horace Packe, Mr M. Blathwyatt conductsd the burial serviqe. Another old resident, in the person of Mr Joseph Woodley, died at the Frankton Hospital on Saturday last. He had been in bad health for some considerable time. He was a hard-worldner, kind-nearted man. and his many friends will regret to hear of his demise. The funeral took place at the Frankton cemetery yesterday afternoon. The news, of the death of Mrs James Da^g. which occurred at Dunedin on the 15th inst. , caused quite a shock to her many friends in this district. The deceased lady was ' a native of Arthur's Point, being a daughter of the late Mr P. Gra-ntley. who kept a hotel there for many years. The bereaved husband and family have the sympathy of their many friends in this district.
