• The following^ communication was ret { ceived by the Ofcago Trades and Labour J Council at its meeting* last evening -from ! the New Zealand Federated Boot Trade, ■ Union, Christchurch : — x I have the honour, by direction of the above federation, to communicate witK you on the advisability of supporting 1 colonial industries. In this connection permit me to point out that for the year 1906 the total value of boots and shoes imported into New Zealand was £300,134-,-and chiring the above "year a very larger -number of our., paembers only received 25 full weeks' employment, the remainder of the 52 weeks would see our hands thrown out for one, two, or three days: We therefore urgje upon members of your council to make sure that the article you are purchasing is~made in New Zealand; also to use your best efforts to induce your friends and relatives to do the same, thus giving more constant employment td every worker throughout the Dominion!
