MAIN TRUNK RAILWAY.

WELLINGTON, April 15. Mr Holmes, Engineer-in Chief of the Public Works Department, who has returned from the north, to-day informed a Post reporter that he was satisfied that if the weather during the oaminz winter was not unusualiy bad the North Tsland Main Trunk railway would be open for traffic at the end of the yefyj. He thinks that the Makatote viaduct will be finished tn two months, and that at the end of this month the gap between the rail-heads will, be reduced to nine miles.
