THE PRESRYTERIAN SYNOD OF OTAGO AND SOUTHLAND.
The annual meeting of the Presbyterian Synod of Otago and Southland was commenced on the 14th at First Church. The Rev. D. Dutton, the retiring Moderator, presided. A communion service was held, after which the retiring Moderator preached a, sermon upon "Christian 00-operation," basing his remarks upon Philippians i, 3 to The Rev. S. W. Currie, M.A., of Balclutha, was elecfed Moderator. Upon assuming the chair, the Moderator thanked the Synod for the honour conferred upon him. He said he would do hie very best to see that the work of the Synod would be carried on m an efficient manner. Although the Synod was not now the Synod of past years, still he appreciated the honour of being Moderator. He referred to the passing away of two of their groat elders, Mr A. C. Bey? and Mr James Adam, men who had served the Church with great fidelity. He supposed that the usual memorial minutes would be passed, but felt sure no one would take exception to his specially mentioning these two. It was agreed to send messages of symrathy to the" Rev. James Chisholm, Messrs J- A.- Torrance, Walter Hislop, John.Mitchell, the Revs. W. Hewitson and J. M. M'Kerrow. A committee was set up to prepare memorial minutes m reference to the late Meisrs A. C. Begg, James Adam, and Mrs Milne^ A vote of thanks to the retiring Moderator for his work and for the sermon delivered was carried.
