The Amateur Golf Championship of Canterbury- was decided this afternoon, the winner being B. C. Rutherford, of Christchurch, whose gross score for the two rounds was 161. H. B. Lusk (Christchurch) and H. E. Wright (Timaru) tied for runner-up, and the tie will be played off later. The Handicap Medal for the first round was won by W. A. Humphreys (Christchurch), and the medal for the second by A- C. Fryer (Christchurch). , April 20. | The golf tournament was continued on Shirley Links, the day being occupied with the Bogey Handicap and Bogey Foursomes. me handicap was won by H. B. Lusk (Christchurch), who finished up witn two down, doing the round m 80. J. R. Park and T. Brydone (Dunedin) were fairly well up, and filled second and third places respectively. Tha Bogey Foursomes was annexed by -H. C. Smith and B. J. Smith (Dunedin), who finished one down, which was a very meritorious performance. This pair have twice previously tied for this event m ; Christ-church, and their win om this occasion by a substantial margin was not unexpected. They lost six holes, halved eeven, and won the remaining five. The sixteenth hole was , won m two, B. Smith's cleek shot going j to the edge of the green, and H. Smith holed j with a beautiful putt. The last hole was ! halved m four, B. Smith just missing a long . putt. The last five holes were done m , 18, against Bogey's 17, which was a decidedly gocd performance for the day, and I quits outdistanced the other players.

• (From Oon Own Cobrespondent.) " CHRISTCHURCH, April IS. | The Dunedin players failed to distinguish themselves. All the honours m ths big event and two handicaps, which were played con- i currently, were annexed by Canterbury men. j None of the Dunediiu golfers have shown I proper form, but as tbeir acquaintance with . the links improves they should do better I m succeeding matches. The Shirley Links | are •m good order, but the course is haidly , long enough for a championship match, though - the lengthening of the third and fourth holes has improved it. The winner of the Championship (B. C. Rutherford, Christchurch) fcljayed very steadily, doing the first round m 79 and the seoond m 82, making a total of 161. The runners-up — H. B. Lusk (Christchurch) and H. E. Wright (Timaru) — wer* only two strokes behind tihe champion. Wright did the first [ round m 79, as against I_usk's 62, but took 84 to accomplish the second round, while Lusk only took 81. The best Dunedin score was made fay Basil Smith, who d^d the first Tound m 83, and the second m 84, making a total of 167. Salmon (172) played well m the second round, doing it m 80, or two strokes under the champion's score. His firtt round (93) was, however, too big a drag on his chances. Stronach played a solid couple of rounds for 85 and 89. H. C. Smith was clean ofi form, his total being 183, made up by 89 and 94 for the first and second founds respectively. Last year's champion (C. Treweek, Christchurch) did fairly well m the seoond round with 83, but was hopelessly out with 94 m the first.
