CANTERBURY.
The annual meeting of the Prebbleton branch was held en the 13th inst. was a good attendance, and Mr J. W. Prebble was voted to tho chair. The Chairman gave a short account of i^he work done during the year, anrl drew attention to the benefits derived from co-operation. He thanked the committee, for their hearty support, and trusted that the branch would maintain its strength and activity during the coming year. The Secretary reported that although the members did not attend the ordinary meetings as well as might be desired, it was encouraging to find them so*.ready to pay their subscriptions and retain their membership. Three members had left the' district since the last meeting, but several new ones had joined. Correspondence was received from the Provincial Executive as to changing the rules. Ths meeting supported the proposed alteration m rules with one excepon— namely, the fixing of the levy on a graduated scale. It was thought this would create an inequality m the standing of the . members, and the meeting decided to support the present system of raising the It was resolved to hold * social m about , a month's time, and Messrs Patterson, Campion, .«itte, Carpenter,- Patchett, and Prebble were appointed a sub-committee to carry out the social. j Mr "Patchett proposed that tho following , remit be sent to the Provincial Executive: "That the Government be urged to push on the extension of the Main Trunkrailway from ChHstchuroh to Blenheim.' —This was seconded by Mr Winter, and carried unaniA * vote of thanks was passed to the chairman, secretary, and delegate for iheir services. The following were appointed a Committee of Management:— Messrs J. ». Prebble, Patterson, Witte, Foster, aarok. Campion, Patchett, and J W Prebble, fivo fo form the quorum. Mr F. Carpenter was elected chairman, and Mr J. Patchett aecreILTy and treasurer, and Mr Patterson delegate to Provincial Executive.
